What is GIS?

Geographic Information Systems are a very unique and fantastic means of cataloging, managing, analyzing and investigating our environment.

Information systems refer to the computers, the operating systems, the software, the data, the methods and techniques, and the people associated with all of the technology associated with storing information.

Information is powerful. Information can be greatly enhanced when the situation of information is paired with the geography of the information, the “where” of information. This is the heart of GIS.
